Google Paying Authors for Books Online
Active Image Oct. 29, 2008--Google's amazing Book Search program, practically a free online library, has been a thorn in the side of authors and publishers who liked the exposure but deserved a share of ad revenue. Now Google (GOOG) has agreed to shell out $125 million for past copyright violations, and set up a payment model for authors going forward. This will prove to be another powerful marketing arrow in the quiver of independently published authors because studies show that letting people read a few pages of a book online increases book sales.
