Oct. 8, 2008--NBC's "Today" show featured an interview by co-host Meredith Vieira with Winans Kuenstler author Walter Pavlo Jr. and the book we produced for him, "Stolen Without A Gun," as part of a weeklong series on economic crimes such as tax evasion and embezzlement."Today" online also ran a long companion piece--"Jail looms for mortgage execs"--based on interviews with Pavlo at his home in Florida.

Pavlo was a finance executive with MCI, a leader in the deregulated telephone business in the 1990s, at a time when the company was "cooking" its books, puffing up its earnings to keep Wall Street happy. He participated in an embezzlement scheme that sent him to jail for two years. Pavlo's book was headed for obscurity when the original publisher, AMACOM, backed out of Pavlo, Stolen Without a Gunits agreement to publish it, at the last minute. Pavlo and co-author Neil Weinberg of Forbes Magazine, retained Winans to substantially edit, design, and produce the book, which snagged Pavlo this prestigious media appearance. Pavlo has been using the book for about a year in lectures and presentations across the country on white collar crime and corporate ethics. More about Pavlo at his website.
